Daylesford has been selected as the home of the Big Rainbow by a popular vote run by Tinder, but there are mixed views about bringing the ‘Big Rainbow’ to Daylesford.
On the one hand most people are strongly supportive of the regional LGBTQI+ community in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. The Regional Pride Rainbow Project makes the importance of community support for the LGBTQI+ community clear. Many people from this community have experienced the discrimination and challenges of growing up and living in regional Victoria. Daylesford and Hepburn Springs have taken a lead role in addressing discrimination and promoting the rights of the LGBTQI+ community.
But on the other hand, there are concerns about how a Big Rainbow itself looks and feels for the local environment and whether there are better ways of supporting the LGBTQI+ community. The resolution of these competing views is likely to depend on where the Big Rainbow is placed.
Council is proposing four options: Lake Daylesford, the Lost Children’s Park, Victoria Park and the Skateboard Park.

Council is asking the community to help them decide which one of the four locations is best for this landmark through a community survey.
The purpose of the survey is to:
- Inform key stakeholders and the community about the project and the opportunity to engage
- Share information about the four shortlisted site options and how they have been chosen
- Identify any relevant stakeholder and community knowledge relevant to the final sites
- Gather local knowledge that will inform Council’s decision making.
